Storie del Giappone


In the nineteenth century, a great fascination for Japanese art and design influenced Western artists such as Edgar Degas, Alfred Stevens or James McNeill Whistler. Japonisme also influenced the performing arts such as Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado or Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Eugenie Malanotti De Caldes, the grandmother of De Caldes designer Mario Gagliardi, collected Japanese Faience and planted Japanese cherry trees in the garden of her villa. Storie del Giappone - Stories of Japan - is a voyage through  a Japan which is both real and imagined and a hommage to an exceptional aesthetic culture which has inspired generations of artists around the world.
