An hommage to the conoisseurship of the Malanotti De Caldes family. Next to their own production of fine wool and silk, they also maintained amicable relations to fine fabric makers in Asia, importing their silks to Venice.
In the eighteenth century, the Qing empire was the largest and most prosperous country in the world, producing an enormous number of refined cultural and artistic works. In ceramic art, vivid color was a result of imperial admiration for European enamel objects. Eugenie Malanotti De Caldes, grandmother of De Caldes designer Mario Gagliardi, in reverence to these friendships collected Chinese porcelain objects and raised Japanese cherry trees in her vast garden.
Handcrafted and hand-carved by De Caldes artisans in 100% New Zealand wool, this exceptional rug comes in two color variations: Shades of yellow and purple, and shades of tangerine and blue.

Sustainability & Wellbeing
The wool for our rugs is a renewable resource. Every year sheep grow a new fleece which must be shorn for the health and hygiene of the animal. New Zealand's sheep graze on open pastures and are raised in healthy natural environments. Wool is fully biodegradable and compostable. Unlike plastics, wool does not release micro-plastics into our oceans and seas.
Contributing to energy saving, up to 10% of the heat in a room which would be dissipated with other floor coverings can be retained with rugs.
Rugs contribute to a better indoor air quality with their dust-trapping properties. Dust settles and is held by the pile fibers of the rug until it is vacuumed.
The fibers of a rug provide a cushioning effect. Both infants and the elderly benefit from the soft surfaces of rugs. In the event of a fall, the soft resilience of the rug lowers the risk of injury.
Noise can have a serious effect on wellbeing. Our rugs, pillows and upholstered furniture can reduce impact noise by up to 30dB.
Our brass accessories are non-magnetic, long-lasting and antimicrobal, eliminating moulds, fungi, algae and bacteria.

Care for your brass accessories
For normal cleaning, use a soft cloth.
